If you know me you know I absolutely love smoothies! They are quick and easy to make and delicious. They are also great for weight management because generally they are low in calories and if you make them right packed with essential vitamins and nutrients.

I usually use a protein powder Vega Protein brand from Target in my smoothie. This gives me extra calories and protein to keep me full until my next meal. There’s no one particular brand I recommend but make sure to read the label to make sure it’s right for you.

Generally for women 1 scoop (25-30 grams protein) per 8-10oz smoothie is sufficient. Here are some of my favorite smoothie recipes.

Green Fruit Smoothie:

Ingredients

  • 1/2-1 cup Spinach

  • 1Tbsp Flax seeds (optional)

  • 1/2 c cut frozen strawberries

  • 1/2 banana

  • 4oz Almond milk

  • water

  • 1 scoop greens based protein powder (optional)

Directions: Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Consider blending 1/2 ingredients then adding remainder.

Berry Smoothie:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c frozen blueberries

  • 1/2 c frozen strawberries

  • 6oz low fat or almond milk

  • 1 scoop greens based protein powder (optional)

Directions: Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

Beet Smoothie:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup red beets

  • 1 small apple

  • 1/2 peeled naval orange

  • handful kale

  • Flax seeds (optional)

  • ice

  • water

Directions: combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth

Avocado Greens Smoothie:

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup avocado, seeded, peeled and diced

  • 1 Tbsp. minced ginger

  • 1/2 c frozen mango cubes

  • 1/2 c plain, nonfat or vanilla yogurt

  • 1 tsp. lemon juice

  • water

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
